Alicia Machado was born Yoseph Alicia Machado in Maracay Venezuela on the 6th of December, 1976. Alicia is of mixed ancestry. The father of her was Spanish and her mother Cuban. She has been a well-known figure in beauty pageants and television. The rise of Alicia Machado to stardom began when she was crowned Miss Venezuela in 1995 at the age of 19, from the country of Yaracuy. Machado was crowned Miss Universe 1996 one year after being crowned Miss Venezuela. She became the 4th Venezuelan winning the award. Her reign as Miss Universe, however, was a source of controversy as well as criticism from the media because of her weight gain in the course of her presidency. Donald Trump who was the Miss Universe Organization's founder in the time of her election publicly ridiculed her for the weight increase.
